We all know well about the smoky eye. Celebrities from Hollywood tend to have this makeup classic down pat – black eyeliner, charcoal or black shadow, and plenty of mascara for a dark, sensuous look. But what happens when we have a daytime event to go to, or we just want to switch it up some? The good news for you is that, luckily, celebrities are changing just like our personal styles are ever-changing, and they’ve come up with a few new things you can do to switch up that classic smoky eye.

One thing you can do to your average smoky eye look to switch it up is to use different colors entirely. For a softer look, try charcoal eyeliner and an even lighter gray. Or try navy liner with a brighter blue shadow to bring in some fun. You can do the smoky eye with virtually any color, so keep that in mind. Just try to buy shadow that is several shades lighter than the liner to give it a unique look and a distinction between the two.

Another makeup tip that celebrities are following lately is the reverse smoky eye. Generally a smoky eye means very dark liner, lighter shadow to the crease, then a very light variation to the brow bone. Reversing the smoky eye can have an amazingly youthful effect. Try a nice taupe color from the crease to the brow, then a shiny silver color from the crease down, using it as your liner as well. This kind of look gets raves on the red carpet, and can help make you look younger by brightening the eye area rather than darkening it.
